It's three in the morning. You've been gaming all night, and the drinks have run out.

The shop is open 24/7 — just walk there and back.

The street only looks empty.

Better Been Alone is a first-person horror game in the style of the original PlayStation. A night walk through a post-Soviet neighbourhood, built after a real courtyard: dim entrance lamps, a parking lot, a bus stop, a dark yard and a lit shop on the other side.

Features

  • PS1 look: 240 lines, colour dithering, wobbling vertices, affine textures
  • Darkness you can barely see through — light is rare at 3 a.m.
  • Sound does most of the work: wind, footsteps, voices in the dark
  • No combat, no inventory — only you and the walk
  • English and Ukrainian, three subtitle sizes

Controls

  • WASD / arrow keys — walk
  • Mouse — look around
  • Shift — walk faster
  • E — interact, read a note
  • 1–3 or ↑↓ + Enter / E — choose a line in a conversation
  • Tab (hold) — current objective
  • Esc — pause and settings

Content warning: jump scares and flickering lights.

Early build — 0.2.0

You need to tic the windows compatibility box.  Will not download in the itch app until you do.

Fixed, thanks for the heads-up! The Windows box is ticked now, so the itch app should install it.
